fired.

I promise, this is baby related.

To make a long story short, I was pretty close with my immediate supervisor at work who just had a baby 6 months ago. SO, naturally when I found out I was pregnant I told ONLY her to get some support from someone who had just been through the whole deal, she advised me to keep in on the DL at work for the time being (which I had planned on doing anyways). I actually told her the same day I told DH. About 3 weeks ago. We corresponded via email everyday about my pregnancy.

Fast forward to last Thursday. I come into the office, everyone is being extremely distant, I didn't think toooooo much of it until I get back from lunch and pretty much none of the managers would even look at me. I knew something was up for sure. 3:30 rolls around and I get called into the human resource managers office. I knew I was getting ready to get in trouble for something, but I had no clue what for. So, I sit down, he closes the door. In a not so sympathetic tone he says "we had a customer service complaint on you, and we are going to have to let you go". I stare at him for what seems like 5 minutes before I said, "from who?". He said "we do not have to disclose that to you." I asked him to give me a little more information to let me try to understand this. He again said, "that doesn't matter, the complaint was about you". At this point I am in utter shock. I have never even had a VERBAL warning from this company about anything, especially a customer complaint. At this point, they are escorting me to my desk and watching me like I am a criminal clean out my belongings. Completely embarrassed by the whole situation, I don't say a word and walk out of that place with my pride intact.

I get home about 4:00pm and DH is confused as to why I am there. In a feat of rage, I yelled "I got fired." I HAVE NEVER BEEN FIRED FROM ANY JOB IN MY LIFE! I proceed to tell him that there was no grounds to fire me based on the information that he provided me (or lack there of) and I told DH that I am 100% positive that my immediate supervisor (who, remember, KNEW about my pregnancy) had spilled the news to the big dogs about me being pregnant and wanted to get me outta there before "I" said anything about it to them. They had to think of some lame-o excuse about how I had a complaint, when in fact I had never received a verbal or even written warning about any of my conduct at work. I even received an email about a week before I told my manager about the baby, about how good of an employee I was and that she wanted to see me excel in the company... (good thing I saved that email & the ones where her and I were talking back and fourth about the baby) Thank you gmail for not deleting those emails... they are going to come in handy when I go to the Equal Opportunity Employment Commission on Friday and make sure that they received my complaint that I filed claiming I was fired because of the fact that I was pregnant. This company has not seen the last of Crystal, if I have anything to say about it.

PS. you would think that a company that I had to go through THREE interviews with to get the job, would have some sort of "coaching" or "three strikes rule" in place if something like this happens. Just seems a little fishy to me and everyone else I have told for that matter.

I guess I didn't give you the short version, sorry.

  1. That's such bullshit! I'm glad you're going to file a complaint...you should get a lawyer's advice, too, if you can. I'm so sorry they did that to you and I hope you can make them pay.
