can we talk about this video?!

cj and i fully intend on putting vegas in dance pretty early. it was something i wish my mother would have done for me, but i just wasn't raised where that was an option. we want to give her the opportunity to experience dance, and if she likes it great. if not, i wont try to force it on her.

BUT i came across this video earlier today and i must say there are not many things that offend me when it comes to kids. but seven year olds [dropping it like its hot?!] in hot pants - not my cup of tea. when i first started watching the video i thought "wow, these little girls are cute", but that lasted a whole .04 seconds until i saw the first little girl frame her tiny boobies with her hands! completely age inappropriate! i will say that for their age, they are very talented, but geeze.

what do you think?

EDIT: boo for copyrights. they removed the video from youtube.

  1. wow...sex predators no doubt will flock, which is HIGHLY disturbing!!! Don't these parents consider this before they allow their daughters to 'show off' their bodies this way???

  2. Oh. my. god. Who lets their 7 year old dance like that? They were good and all, but that was too much for their age!

  3. I think they are amazing dancers. It's too bad the instructor decided to use that talent in those costumes to that song. It's so inappropriate!

  4. I am so glad someone posted about this (though this is in line with a future post on my own blog because I have SO MUCH to say about this topic).

There is NO WAY IN HELL I would EVER allow or encourage my daughter to dress the way those little girls are dressed or perform a dance like that.

    Are these girls talented? Absolutely!

Do I think a seven year old should be encouraged to dress and act in a manner that would still raise eyebrows if they were 18? NO!

  5. They really are incredibly talented, but it's completely over-shadowed by those costumes & questionable moves they were pullin' off. If I was one of their moms, I would have it out with the teacher. for real.

  6. Those poor little girls are so incredibly talented but it was poor judgement on the song and costumes. They could have had the same results by using a more age appropriate performance.

  7. There are so many things wrong with video.

  8. Wrong on so many different levels...

I agree, the girls are great dancers but the outfits and the moves are for twenty something girls, not preteens!! Eeek... I would have been pulling my kid out if that was her dance studio!

I want Addison to take dance too... just not THAT kind of dance!

And for the record, I love your blog. In case you were wondering :)

  9. So, so inappropriate! And that many parents were ok with them performing it... I had an acquaintance who thought it was hilarious to have her FOUR year old show off "club" dance moves. Always left me confused, and sad for that little girl's future.

  10. I agree with everyone. They have talent but they are too young for those costumes and the dance moves they were doing.

I know those kids probably didn't think anything about it but the teachers and parents should have.

  11. OMG! I saw this on perezhilton and I just can't believe parents let their daughter wear and dance like that!

  12. I took dance for 15 years and I NEVER did a dance like that. I loved taking dance. It amazes me that the girls mothers let them dance like that.

  13. I'm soooo with you on this. And shame on the parents for letting their kid do a performance like that!

  14. I will agree with everyone that this video is disturbing and that the blame does fall on the adults involved directly in the situation but it would seem society as a whole is to blame too. People keep saying these girls are too young to dance like this but why should women be dancing like this at all?

Should we not be encouraging all women of today to respect themselves enough not to go out in public and flaunt off their "sexual side" through their dance moves just to try and get a guy's attention.

Children like to emulate people who they perceive to be popular be it movie stars, singers, etc. And if adults support stars like beyonce, brittany, etc. and think they have great dance routines and are popular how can we not expect children to want to be like them and copy what they do?

Eventually that starts to rub off on parents too because who doesn't want to say they raised the next beyonce?

Anyways, just a thought and by no means am I taking the blame of the adults directly involved in the situation I'm just saying maybe as a society we all need to make a change as to what is acceptable behavior for women of any age.

  15. I saw that video before they removed it! But ya completely inappropriate dance for little girls. BUT, dance costumes are like that I have to say. There isn't much there for plenty of them. I was in competitive dancing from 2nd grade until highschool (I decided to stop the competitive part & stick with highschool dance) & about 50% of my costumes looked similar to those!

I'm not agreeing with it, but just because the parents allowed them to wear those costumes does not mean they will let them dress like skanks when they are 16. My parents never did & aside from makeup for dance competitions I wasn't allowed to have a drop of mascara come near my face until I was 16!
