the name game.

here lately cj and i have been getting mixed reviews on our little girls name, although the thought of someone not liking her name doesn't bother me one ounce, its the shear fact that people feel they need to voice their opinion on the subject. this is not their place, and completely rude in my opinion.

i am all for suggestions, but most go in one ear and out the other. we have noticed that miss v's name appeals more to the younger generation as opposed to the older "lets name every child we have after someone in our family" generation. its fine if you fall into the traditional name category, but don't openly judge our choice of a name simply because it is too outlandish for your taste. if i am being brutally honest, i believe it would be worse to have a name that 12 other children have in your child's kindergarten class have.... emma grace anyone... just sayin'.

i have gotten to the point where i am tired of the facial gestures associated with telling people her name, that i simply tell most people "its a surprise" when they ask if we have decided on a name. cj finds it mildly amusing that it bugs me so much how rude people are when it comes to this subject.

we have had v's first name picked out for about five years now, and as soon as the ultrasound tech told us we were having a little girl, her name has always been that, never once even attempting to change. her middle name, however; has been a few different things. i have never once mentioned her first name on this blog for a reason, its simply so good that i don't want anyone to steal it [not like that would happen] but still.

wow, this post turned out waaaaaay longer than i had intended it to be :)

feel free to take a wild guess. here is a hint.... its not a crazy made up name, or a name that can be spelled "ewnikkleigh". rofl.

  1. We have had our girl name picked out for 3 years now and we are not telling anyone it for that exact reason. I hate how people feel they need to say something about names.

  5. Don't you love all the comments? AREN'T THEY THE BEST?! ugh.

I have no idea what you guys have picked out, but I'm sure it's a good one if you've stuck with it for 5 years... and I'm also sure it's going to drive me crazy for 13 more weeks until you spill!

  6. i totally sympathize with you, which is why we didn't tell a single soul our name we had chosen for our little girl until she had arrived. it wasn't a very traditional name, and i knew some people wouldn't like it. that's their perrogative. i've come to the conclusion that if you don't like the name we have chosen you simply have no taste. and well, we have taste, so screw them!

  8. I think it's awesome that you guys have picked out an original and unique name. We are attempting to do the same because we don't want our child to have the same name as those 12 children either. I'm just starting to get the name questions and the "you should do this or not do that" stuff and however innocent it is I am learning it can sometimes be quite annoying...especially from those people I don't really even know.
    Wish you the best!

  13. The comments from strangers I can handle its the friends and FAMILY comments that really irritate me. The names we have picked out aren't on any 'top' list but I have heard a few ppl with the names. We haven't decided for sure yet but when we do we certainly won't be telling many ppl. Right now I'm battling with the ppl who think I've COMPLETELY LOST IT just because we aren't finding out what it is...at first the comments were ok, but now they are gettin OLD!!! This isn't our first and we have one of each...whats the big deal?!?!?!
